The Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse is heartbroken to share details of a recent animal cruelty case currently under investigation by Geddes Police.Â
On October 18, two teens discovered a deceased dog abandoned in a cardboard box near the railroad tracks by Beach Road and Iona Place in Lakeland Park. A neighbor's security camera captured footage of a male suspect wearing a knee brace walking along Beachview Avenue on October 15 around 8:22 PM carrying what appears to be a reusable shopping bag. Minutes later, he is seen returning with the bag empty. The green label that was found on the box is distinct and could provide information leading toward the suspect.Â
The dog, who we are calling Gunther, was approximately a 3-year-old adult male terrier mix. He appeared severely malnourished and covered in feces. He has been transported to Cornell for a necropsy as the investigation continues.Â
AAGS is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the individual responsible. No animal deserves this, and we are committed to supporting law enforcement in finding answers.Â
If you have any information, please contact Geddes Police immediately at 315-468-3283. Even the smallest detail may help bring justice for this dog.Â
Thank you for helping us stand against cruelty and protect the animals in our community.
