Established in 2010, the Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse (AAGS) is a group of animal advocates who are dedicated to making Central New York a safer and more humane home for animals and the people who care about them.
A Clear Reminder of Why Spaying and Neutering Your Pets Is Essential
In January 2025, a troubling situation unfolded when a large number of cats were found abandoned in a rented room. Shelters, rescues, advocacy groups, and local authorities are frequently contacted about animals discovered in similar circumstances, but this case stands out. A family friend was renting a room, and when the homeowner finally gained access, they were stunned to find 50-60 cats—adults and kittens—left behind in the cramped space.

With local shelters and rescues already overwhelmed by limited space, animal organizations are scrambling to find places for these cats and kittens, doing their best to manage the urgent situation.
What We Do
Collaborate with advocates, agencies, shelters, rescues, and government entities in our community to strengthen the safety net for animals, working toward a day when there are no more homeless pets.
